Endangered Species Series
Each release in the Discovery™ Endangered Species coin sets focuses on two threatened species of wildlife native to one of the seven continents – Africa, Asia, Antarctica, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America.
Africa
The first release in the Discovery™ Endangered Species program focuses on the lion and mandrill of Africa. The African Lion coin showcases the bond between cub and father, with the youngster nuzzling the majestic adult male to get affection. The African Mandrill coin provides a close look at the startling natural colorization of these baboon-like creatures.
Asia
The second release in the Discovery™ Endangered Species series highlights the plight of the giant panda and orangutan of Asia. Carrying forward the familial theme, the Asian Orangutan coin portrays a mother orangutan foraging, with her baby crowding in to see what there is to eat. The Asian Panda coin shows an adult panda sitting upright, attacking a lunch of bamboo with gusto.
