One of the most popular classic silver coins to collect, the Morgan Dollar was designed by Chief Engraver of the U. S. Mint George T. Morgan. Beginning circulation in 1878, the Morgan dollar was struck annually through 1904. Production resumed for one year in 1921, when the new Peace Dollar design was not yet ready.
The obverse of this famous coin features the left profile of Lady Liberty inside a beaded border, with the national motto "E Pluribus Unum" above her head, and the year-date below. The reverse features an American Bald Eagle in a laurel wreath, clutching an olive branch and three arrows. "In God We Trust" is inscribed between the eagle's wings, and the legend "United States of America One Dollar encircles the eagle.
