Peace dollar mintages continued to plummet in 1926, as the public fascination with the new coin had quickly faded. Much like the Morgan dollar before it, the Mint struck Peace dollars only because they were forced to buy silver by Congressmen from the mining states. MIllions of Peace dollars were struck, then immediately put into long-term storage.
