The 1891 Morgan dollar was once the most common of common date Morgans. Massive numbers of this mintage survived the Pittman Act silver dollar melt of 1918, but did not escape the silver melts of the 1960s. While no longer a common date Morgan dollar, the 1891 is not difficult to find in worn grades.
The Value of an 1891 Morgan Dollar
Truly nice 1891 Morgan dollars can be found, but the majority have poor strikes and luster. This limits the number of coins that can grade MS65 and above. While 1891 Morgan dollars are relatively easy to find up to MS64, strike quality makes MS65 coins decidedly rare. Anything grading above that is a true rarity by any measure.
