1980 marked the return of the P mintmark for the Philadelphia Mint on the Jefferson nickel -- this time, for good. Even so, a 593 million coin mintage meant that collector demand for the date was met by searching through rolls of nickels for a nice uncirculated one.

A slight bump in demand for 1980-P Jefferson nickels in high Mint State grades can’t mask the fact that it is an exceedingly common coin. Full Steps examples are scarce in high grades.
