The low mintage of the 1951-S Jefferson nickel led to widespread hoarding by the roll. Paradoxically, this means that the date is affordable in all but the very highest grade.
The Value of A 1951-S Jefferson Nickel
The 1951-S Jefferson nickel has the usual San Francisco strike. Repeated polishing of the dies to extend their service life led to weak strikes and loss of detail, but sometimes produced a prooflike finish in the fields.
This is another early Jefferson nickel where NGC has not recorded a full six-step Full Steps.
