The Value of A 1944-D Silver Jefferson Nickel
Nickel was a vital strategic metal during WWII. From late 1942 through 1945, Jefferson nickels were produced using an alloy of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese to free up nickel for the war effort.
Jefferson nickels went back to the traditional 75% copper 25% nickel composition in 1946.
