The San Francisco Mint took advantage of the softer 35% silver alloy of the war nickels to turn out some better than usual strikes in 1943. While better than many earlier -S nickel mintages, the 1943-S was still below the level of the average 1943-D.

The Value of A 1943-S Silver Jefferson Nickel
Enough 1943-S nickels were hoarded that uncirculated grades are common up through MS66. Worn examples are probably only found in bulk bags that are traded according to their bullion value.
