As defined in SCC §12-36-2120, the following bullion and numismatic items are EXEMPT from sales tax when shipped by Gainesville Coins to a South Carolina address:
EXEMPT
Refined gold, silver, or platinum bullion bars or ingots sold according to its precious metal content and not form;
Coins that are, or have been, legal tender in the U.S. or foreign nations;
Currency (paper money).
All other bullion or numismatic items and accessories sold by Gainesville Coins are subject to South Carolina state sales tax.

SC Code Section 12-36-2120 (70)
(70)(a) gold, silver, or platinum bullion, or any combination of this bullion;
(b) coins that are or have been legal tender in the United States or other jurisdiction; and
(c) currency.”
