The 2021 1 Kilo Lunar Ox Series 3 silver coin from the Perth Mint celebrates 2021 as the Year of the Ox in the Chinese Lunar calendar. It is struck from 1 kilogram (32.15 troy oz) of .9999 fine silver in a Brilliant Uncirculated finish. Each one is sealed at the Perth Mint in a custom-fitted, clear protective capsule.
This Lunar Ox design continues the Perth Mint Chinese Zodiac gold and silver coin program that began in 1996. Each year, original designs are created in silver and gold for one animal of the Chinese Zodiac. It takes 12 years to complete the cycle and portray all the animals. Series 2 ended in 2019 with the Year of the Pig. Series 3 began in 2020 with the Year of the Mouse. This year is the third time the Year of the Ox has been featured on Perth Mint coins.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2021 Lunar Ox 1 Kilo silver coin presents a mother ox and her calf in the Chinese countryside. They stand beneath a budding cherry tree, with the calf looking up at its mother. Farmland can be seen in the distance behind them, and further still, a village at the base of some mountains. Oxen have been used for plowing and pulling wagons for millennia in Asia. The center of the coin shows the word "Ox" in Chinese and English, above the year date 2021.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2021 Year of the Ox 1 Kilo silver coin features the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. In addition to being queen of the United Kingdom, Elizabeth continues to be the symbolic monarch of several nations that were formerly part of the British Empire. These nations include Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. The upper half of the coin's rim bears the inscriptions ELIZABETH II and AUSTRALIA. The bottom half of the rim denotes the coin's weight and purity 1 KILO .9999 Ag and the denomination 30 DOLLARS.
Were You Born in the Year of the Ox?
The Year of the Ox in the Chinese Lunar calendar occurs every twelve years. Previous Years of the Ox include 2009, 1997, 1985,1973, and 1961. Each Year of the Ox has one of five elements associated with it: Fire, Metal, Water, Wood, and Earth. These will influence the regular characteristics of the Ox.
People born in the Year of the Ox are known for their strength and determination. They don't always communicate well with others, which can lead to the impression that they are "bull-headed". Just because they have a "low key" personality doesn't mean that they aren't ambitious. They have the patience to work towards their goals over the long term. They prefer steady work that is a fit for their intelligence and diligence.
Oxen have traditional, conservative values. Their strong faith means that family is very important to them. They wish a better life for their children, and try to pass along their work ethic and being goal-oriented.
2021 is the Year of the Metal Ox. The Metal Ox is hard-working and active, but also has better communication skills than other Oxen. This means that they have more friends, and are more popular than the average Ox.
