A Gainesville Coins Exclusive!

First Ever Release

Mintage Of Only 10,000

KOMSCO, the official mint of the Republic of Korea, is expanding its silver bullion series with the FIRST EVER, new limited-edition 1/2 oz Chiwoo Cheonwang silver medallion. Widely known as the mascot of the "Red Devils," the passionate fans of the Korean national soccer team, Chiwoo is the legendary 14th head of state of the first ancient Korean state, known as Shinshi. This earned him the title of Cheonwang, meaning "Heavenly King." Chiwoo is also the mythological God of War who controlled the weather in order to vanquish his enemies on the battlefield. He is said to have summoned storms, fog, and other weather events to defeat his enemies. The legacy of his many victories helped inspire the Korean national team's remarkable run to the World Cup semifinals in 2002, the country's best-ever finish. These silver bullion medallions are limited to a maximum mintage of just 10,000 pieces and are exclusively available at Gainesville Coins.

Design

REVERSE: Chiwoo is shown riding horseback, his horse rearing on its hind legs, with a shield that bears the intimidating face of Do ggae bi. Chiwoo wears full body armor and his famous devil-like mask. The name "CHIWOO CHEONWANG" is inscribed along the rim to the left. The edge design is reeded.

OBSERVE: A Silla Dynasty (c. 7th century) roof tile known as Gwi-myeon-wa (or Yong-myeon-wa) appears in great detail. The tile depicts Do ggae bi, a supernatural being said to ward off evil spirits that is therefore a popular design for roof tiles dating back hundreds of years in Korean history. Rim inscriptions include the date and purity "2017 FINE SILVER 999," the issuing country "REPUBLIC OF KOREA," the denomination "1/2 CLAY," and the KOMSCO logo.

Security

The obverse also features latent image technology as a cutting-edge anti-counterfeiting measure. Latent images of "Ag" and "999" appear within a small circle near the bottom of the design. This innovation from KOMSCO ensures that your 2017 South Korea 1/2 oz Silver 1/2 Clay Chiwoo Cheonwang Silver Bullion is always authentic!
